OHSAS 18001

In addition to Pratt & Whitney's ISO 14001 focus to achieve environmental excellence, the company is also actively involved in pursuing the British Standard, OHSAS (Occupational Health & Safety Assessment System) 18001. The OHSAS management system is aimed at controlling risks and improving health and safety performance. Pratt & Whitney has 12 sites that have third-party registration to OHSAS 18001.

OSHA’s (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) STAR rating is a designation awarded to U.S. companies who meet rigorous workplace safety and health management standards to protect workers and reduce injuries.

VPP helps EH&S achieve the company’s safety objectives by:

  • Establishing a management system with accountability and oversight at all levels, emphasizing injury prevention plans and safety goals.
  • Requiring annual program evaluations that focus on continuous improvement.
  • Requiring employee involvement in decision making and problem solving in several focus areas, including risk identification, training, incident investigation and workplace safety procedures.
