Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne is the nation’s No. 1 rocket engine provider. Through the merger in 2005 of Pratt & Whitney Space Propulsion and Rocketdyne Propulsion & Power, PWR has combined more than a half-century of experience, and supplies propulsion systems for Atlas and Delta expendable launch systems, the Main Engines for the Space Shuttle, and highly specialized engines for defense systems. Building on that long tradition, PWR will continue to be the “go to” propulsion leader for space endeavors.
Over the last five decades, PWR has played a leading role in America’s exciting history of space exploration. In the early formative days, PWR developed the Redstone engine that took American astronauts into space for the first time, followed by Atlas, which placed astronaut John Glenn in Earth orbit. Within the same decade, PWR engines powered astronauts to the moon and back. In turn, PWR engines helped establish Atlas and Delta as reliable access to space, placing countless satellites into orbit that have revolutionized communications for the entire world. And for the past quarter-century, PWR engine systems have powered the Space Shuttle, continuing human access to space.
Now looking even further into the future, it will be PWR engines that will take humans back to the moon and on to distant places in our own solar system.
Through it all, it has been – and will continue to be – the imagination and dedication of PWR people who have created engine systems that are both state-of-the-art and the ultimate in user reliability. That standard has been the reason for our success in the past and assurance of great accomplishments in the years to come.
