PARIS AIR SHOW – Le Bourget, France, June 15, 2009 – The first European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) approved Pratt & Whitney Global Material Solution (GMS) life limited parts for the CFM56-3 engine have entered revenue service in Europe with Jet2.com.   Pratt & Whitney received EASA approval for all 19 GMS CFM56-3 engine life limited parts late last year.  This successful entry into service introduces the industry’s first EASA-approved, alternative life limited parts for the CFM56-3 engine.  Pratt & Whitney is a United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX) company.

“The dependability of Pratt & Whitney GMS life limited parts offer Jet2.com a competitive alternative,” said Philip Meeson, chief executive officer of Jet2.com.  “We anticipate significant cost savings using Pratt & Whitney GMS parts, and this helps us continue to offer our customers the affordable service that they have come to expect from Jet2.com.”

“FAA and EASA-certified GMS life limited parts offer outstanding value from an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) with a long history of technological innovations,” said Andrew Tanner, vice president, Product Line Management, Pratt & Whitney Commercial Engines and Global Services.  “Pratt & Whitney GMS parts offer customers a reliable and competitively-priced choice for their CFM56-3 engines.”

EASA approval of GMS life limited parts follows the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) issuance of Supplemental Type Certificates for GMS CFM56-3 engine life limited parts in May 2008.  The EASA certification enables Pratt & Whitney to deliver its CFM56-3 life limited parts to European customers.

Global Material Solutions was launched in February 2006.  Jet2.com is the GMS European launch customer.  Jet2.com, a subsidiary of the Dart Group PLC, is a British low-cost leisure airline based in Leeds, England.  Through its commitment and reliable service, Jet2.com has developed a reputation as an airline that offers a sought-after blend of low prices coupled with high customer service standards.

Pratt & Whitney is a world leader in the design, manufacture and service of aircraft engines, space propulsion systems and industrial gas turbines.  United Technologies, based in Hartford, Conn., is a diversified company providing high technology products and services to the global aerospace and commercial building industries.
