Overview

While steam generation has long been an available method for producing heavy oil, of creating clean power, heat loss and reduced steam quality often make it an inefficient or impractical solution for deep drilling and cold environments. Because of our unique capabilities in compact combustion systems that work in extreme environments and our in-depth understanding of the heat transfer challenges that go along with them, Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne is capable of developing steam generators and other oil recovery solutions that can function within reservoirs including those that are deep, are beneath seabeds or are under permafrost, all without affecting or being affected by such environments.
