Pratt & Whitney Receives GreenCircle Award for Connecticut River Cleanup

EAST HARTFORD, Conn., Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012

The Connecticut Department of Energy & Environmental Protection (DEEP) has awarded Pratt & Whitney (P&W) a GreenCircle Award for employee-led clean-up efforts on the East Hartford shoreline of the Connecticut River. The award was accepted by a team of employees at a ceremony held at the DEEP, in Hartford, Conn. Pratt & Whitney is a United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX) company.

A group of Pratt & Whitney employee volunteers donated their time and muscle to make the Connecticut River a cleaner waterway. In conjunction with the Town of East Hartford's 'Bridge to Bridge' clean up day, the team spent a Saturday picking up trash along a section of the East Hartford shoreline. The team removed approximately 20 large garbage bags full of trash.

"An important part of our sustainability efforts include community outreach programs that contribute positively to our local environment," said Mary Anne Cannon, vice president, Quality and Environment, Health & Safety, Pratt & Whitney. "It's always a pleasure to see our employees give back to the communities in which we work and live. Items like the ones this team removed from the site are commonplace in many of our rivers and streams, and that negatively affects the wildlife population and overall environment."

Pratt & Whitney was one of 19 award recipients for accomplishments realized in the 2011 calendar year. Since the CT DEEP started the GreenCircle program in 1998, 1025 awards have been given for more than 1450 projects. The awards represent achievements in energy conservation, transportation, pollution prevention or recycling-related activities or projects that promote natural resource conservation or environmental awareness.

Pratt & Whitney is a world leader in the design, manufacture and service of aircraft engines, space propulsion systems and industrial gas turbines. United Technologies, based in Hartford, Conn., is a diversified company providing high technology products and services to the global aerospace and building industries.
