Pratt & Whitney Receives Healthy Air Ambassador Corporate Award for Commitment to Clean Air and Healthy Lungs

EAST HARTFORD, Conn, Thursday, May 10, 2012

The New England chapter of the American Lung Association has awarded Pratt & Whitney (P&W) the Healthy Air Ambassador Corporate Award for demonstrating a commitment to clean air through environmentally sound practices and a dedication to healthy lungs for all. The award was accepted at a ceremony held at the Riverview in Simsbury. Pratt & Whitney is a United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX) company.

Pratt & Whitney operates within the framework of the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) air compliance regulations which are among the most stringent in the United States. In addition to ensuring compliance with the regulations, Pratt & Whitney has internal goals to reduce its environmental footprint including greenhouse gases and other air emissions.

“Our [Pratt & Whitney’s] 2015 greenhouse gas reduction target is equivalent to taking more than 40,000 cars off the road,” said Renée Welsh, director, Environment, Health & Safety and Facilities & Services, who accepted the award on behalf of Pratt & Whitney. “Since 2006, we have reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 29 percent, water usage by 30 percent, air emissions by 60 percent, and non-recyclable waste by 37 percent.”

Pratt & Whitney is doing its part to protect the environment by providing customers with the most environmentally-responsible products, services and operations, and by reducing greenhouse gas emissions globally.

Pratt & Whitney was one of seven honorees for accomplishments that have contributed to clean air and healthy lungs. The American Lung Association of New England is part of the American Lung Association, the oldest volunteer health organization in the U.S., established in 1904 to combat tuberculosis and whose mission today is to save lives by improving lung health and lung disease. The focus is on air quality, asthma, tobacco control and lung disease in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont.
