Pratt & Whitney Global Service Partners' TOS Facility Celebrates 30th Anniversary
2012 marks 30 years since the formation of Turbine Overhaul Services (TOS), a Singapore-based joint venture between Pratt & Whitney and Singapore Technologies Aerospace Limited (ST Aerospace). Pratt & Whitney is a United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX) company.
Since opening, TOS has become well-known in the aerospace industry for its efficiency and high quality overhaul services on JT8D, JT9D, PW2000, PW4000, V2500® and CFM56® Turbine airfoils, as well as High Pressure Compressor Blades. In 2002 TOS became the first manufacturing site in all of United Technologies Corp. to achieve Gold status, the highest recognition in Achieving Competitive Excellence (ACE), the corporation's lean operating system.
TOS was established in 1981 as a fully owned subsidiary of TRW Inc. In 1986, it was acquired as a joint venture between Pratt & Whitney (51 percent) and ST Aerospace (49 percent). In 2000, a new joint venture, Turbine Coating Services (TCS) was formed to repair PW4000 HPT Blades with Pratt & Whitney (51 percent), ST Aerospace (24.5 percent) and SIA Engineering (24.5 percent). TCS is co-located at TOS and uses TOS employees to perform the work. Today, TOS employs approximately 800 people and serves more than 300 customers in Asia Pacific, Europe and North America.
"Pratt & Whitney is very proud to partner with ST Aerospace and SIA Engineering Co. on the TOS and TCS joint ventures" said Jerry Tarnacki, Pratt & Whitney Global Service Partners vice president. "TOS is highly regarded by its customers thanks to its high quality products delivered at competitive costs and turn-around times. We look forward continuing this partnership in the future."
