Pratt & Whitney's North Berwick facility has been awarded the Above & Beyond award from Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve as an employer who has gone above and beyond the legal requirements for granting leave and providing support for military duty by their employees. Pratt & Whitney is a United Technologies (NYSE:UTX) company.

Wayne Michaud, Pratt & Whitney employee and a specialist with the Maine Army National Guard's 1136th Transportation Company recognizes the importance of employer support during his time in Afghanistan. "It takes away a lot of stress to know that my employer is supporting my family while I am away," said Michaud. "We needed to move while I was on duty and they organized people to help and just took care of it. I have never heard of a company doing that for one of its employees."

Pratt & Whitney President David Hess was on hand at a ceremony to receive the award on behalf of the company. "It speaks volumes about the people in our company when we have individuals willing to step away from their jobs to serve their country," Hess said. "Pratt & Whitney wants to do what it can to support their desire to serve."

John Libby, major general, Maine National Guard, presented the award to Pratt & Whitney. "It's a great pleasure recognizing Pratt & Whitney's North Berwick facility. These awards are recognizing the facilities leadership team and the entire work force. Mr. Mike Papp and his folks have created an environment that supports and celebrates the military service of its employees. Support like this allows our young men and women to serve in the Guard and Reserve. Our National defense counts on employers like Pratt & Whitney."
