BA CityFlyer Selects Pratt & Whitney's Environmentally Friendly EcoPower® Engine Wash

PARIS AIR SHOW, Tuesday, June 21, 2011

BA CityFlyer has selected Pratt & Whitney's patented EcoPower engine wash service for its fleet of Embraer 170 and Embraer 190SR efficiency jets. Pratt & Whitney is a United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX) company.

Under the four-year agreement, Pratt & Whitney Global Service Partners will perform the washes at the Amsterdam Airport Schiphol and at locations throughout the United Kingdom.

"Pratt & Whitney demonstrated the performance benefits of the EcoPower engine wash service during a pilot program in 2010" said Neil Hyde, BA CityFlyer Powerplant Technical Engineer. "We selected the EcoPower engine wash service based on the quantifiable results, including a decrease in engine gas temperature achieved during this program. We expect to see this reflected in reduced fuel consumption and longer engine on-wing life."

"In 2008, BA CityFlyer made a significant investment to upgrade its fleet to new generation fuel efficient aircraft," said Lou Quattrocchi, Pratt & Whitney Product Line Management vice president. "By using EcoPower engine wash, BA CityFlyer will further enhance its fleet by decreasing the engine gas temperature keeping its engines on wing longer and improving fuel efficiency."

BA CityFlyer, based out of Didsbury, Manchester, England, is a wholly owned subsidiary airline of British Airways Plc. The airline operates the majority of British Airways flights out of London City Airport.

Pratt & Whitney's patented EcoPower engine wash system reduces fuel burn by as much as 1.2 percent, eliminating approximately three pounds of carbon dioxide emissions for every pound of fuel saved, while also decreasing engine gas temperature, increasing the amount of time an engine can stay on wing. Pratt & Whitney is a world leader in the design, manufacture and service of aircraft engines, space propulsion systems and industrial gas turbines. United Technologies, based in Hartford, Conn., is a diversified company providing high technology products and services to the global aerospace and commercial building industries.

EcoPower is a registered trademark of United Technologies Corporation.
