Pratt & Whitney Canada Takes on Engine Operating Costs and Customers Reap Rewards

Pratt & Whitney Canada's (P&WC) dedication to performance, speed and simplicity in customer service has taken on new dimensions. At a media briefing held during the National Business Aviation Association's 63rd annual meeting and convention (NBAA) in Atlanta, Georgia, Raffaele Virgili, vice president, Customer Service, announced several cost optimization packages. P&WC is a United Technologies Corp. company (NYSE:UTX).
"The recession has taken its toll on our customers and we want to let them know in a very concrete way that we are here for them," said Virgili. "Our job is to ensure that we do everything necessary to assist them in keeping their aircraft flying profitably. We encourage customers to take advantage of these packages, because they will enhance the reliability and market value of their engines."
Among the initiatives Virgili announced during the media briefing were a series of rebates and savings for PT6A engine owners and operators. The first is an overhaul rebate program for PT6A-41/42 models. Under the program, specifically targeting higher cost overhauls, operators may qualify for an escalating rebate from US$10,000 up to US$115,000, applicable to the total overhaul invoice.
P&WC is also offering a compressor-turbine (CT) vane ring refresh program for most small PT6A engine models at attractive exchange prices with a "no scrap core" provision, making it more affordable to embody a new part. In addition, kits of new parts used in the hot section inspection, repair or overhaul of PT6A-21/27/28 engine models are being offered at a significantly reduced cost in exchange for the operators' current core parts.
Finally, P&WC is offering a 50 per cent discount for operators wishing to convert their PT6A-66 engines to the PT6A-66B engine. This represents a savings up to US$170,000 per engine, depending on the current engine configuration.

Virgili was named to head up P&WC's aftermarket business in early 2010 after more than 25 years within the company's Engineering, Marketing and Service Centre organizations in Canada, the United States and Europe. He said that his priorities include ensuring that P&WC focuses more intently on its customers' needs and providing the services they require.
"The market has changed significantly for our customers during the last two years," he explained, "and while we have always been close to our customers and attentive to their needs, our ear is now even closer to the ground."
