Pratt & Whitney Power Systems Flies FT8® MOBILEPAC® Power Generating Unit to Russia Via the An-124 - One of the World's Largest Fixed-Wing Aircraft

EAST HARTFORD, Conn., December 23, 2009

Pratt & Whitney Power Systems has shipped its self-contained gas turbine-powered electric generating unit, the FT8® MOBILEPAC®, to Russia's Mobile Gas Turbine Post Stations aboard an An-124 – one of the world's largest fixed-wing aircraft. Pratt & Whitney Power Systems is a United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX) company.

The An-124 is a strategic airlift transport aircraft built by the Antonov Design Bureau in the former Soviet Union. It can fly over-sized payloads due to the unique size of its cargo deck and is similar to the Lockheed C-5 Galaxy, but has a 25 percent larger payload, and can carry up to 150 tons. The aircraft lifted off Monday from Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks, Conn., en route to Russia for the delivery.

Pratt & Whitney Power Systems operates in Russia through a subsidiary, Pratt & Whitney Power Systems CIS LLC. Since its first sale in Russia in 2006, Pratt & Whitney Power Systems has sold 19 FT8 MOBILEPACs and one FT8® SWIFTPAC® to three major customers.

"Pratt & Whitney Power Systems is once again proving the high reliability of our FT8 MOBILEPAC by delivering power to our customers in Russia under extreme temperatures. We have FT8 MOBILEPAC units running in Moscow and the surrounding area, in the cities of Novorossiysk and Vladivostok, and the Siberian cities of Krasnoyarsk, Kyzil and Abakan," said Pratt & Whitney Power Systems President Peter Christman.

Pratt & Whitney Power Systems supports the Russian industrial gas turbine market by providing Russia's mobile power needs in the 20-25 mega-watt category as well as stationary power for electric peaking and cogeneration applications. Its last two FT8 MOBILEPAC units were sold to Mobile Gas Turbine Power Stations (MGTES), its largest customer in the country. The MGTES fleet includes 17 FT8 MOBILEPACs.

Pratt & Whitney is a world leader in the design, manufacture and service of aircraft engines, space propulsion systems and industrial gas turbines. United Technologies, based in Hartford, Conn., is a diversified company providing high technology products and services to the global aerospace and commercial building industries.
