A Commitment to the Future Generation: Jill Albertelli Tours Camp Courant
Friday, August 29, 2014
Jill Albertelli, vice president, Supply Management, and co-chair of Camp Courant's Buddy Bash fundraiser, recently toured the camp in Farmington, Connecticut to see first-hand how the camp is benefiting children in the local community.
During the tour, Samielya "Sammy" Grano de Oro highlighted the camp's new state-of-the-art computer lab with computers donated by Pratt & Whitney's Customer Support Services. Here, campers develop their typing skills and learn about Microsoft Office. In addition, for two weeks in the summer, campers participate in "Brain Camp" where they use computers to learn how the human brain functions.
Albertelli also toured the camp's vegetable garden planted by the kids. The garden is also used to teach them about the importance of proper nutrition. She also saw the pool, where campers partake in swimming lessons three days a week.
"The staff at Camp Courant is amazing, and they are world-class people," said Albertelli. I'm beyond impressed with how this camp is exposing children to so many learning opportunities."
Campers range from ages five to twelve. Some of the activities for younger campers include practicing recognizing letters and playing math games. Camp Courant prides itself on developing their camper's socialization skills in a fun, educational environment.
"We're exposing children to experiences that will change their lives," said Eugene Sheehan III, president and managing partner, Sullivan & LeShane PR. "Friends like Pratt & Whitney and UTC mean an awful lot to this camp and what we're able to do for these kids."
Camp Courant is the largest and oldest free summer day camp in the nation, providing educational programs, health screenings and two nutritious meals a day to our capital city's youth.
The camp's largest, annual fundraiser is the Buddy Bash. During the event, supporters gather for a night of fun activities in the fall dressed as their favorite superheroes to help the camp generate donations. This year's Buddy Bash will occur on Friday, September 19.
"I'm thrilled to co-chair this year's Buddy Bash and support Camp Courant, an organization that benefits so many children in our community," said Albertelli. "At Pratt & Whitney, we are committed to making a difference for the future generation and in the communities in which we live and work."
