Nearly $6,000 Raised for United Way at Pratt & Whitney Runway Run and Walk
Runners weathered some unseasonably hot temperatures as they took part in the 16th annual Pratt & Whitney Runway Run 5K and 1.5 mile walk at East Hartford's Rentschler Field on Sept. 11.
The event allowed participants to run or walk around the stadium and directly on the former runway, while flocks of geese seemingly followed along overhead throughout the race.
The race benefits the United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut's Community Investment Fund.
Jim Frissora, who worked with Matt Dawson and Stephanie Tanner to coordinate the race, said the event raised nearly $6,000 in donations for the United Way and noted that the MPE team, led by donations from Jeff Heintz and Denise Hambrick, and Byte Runners, led by donations collected from Shane McCauliffe, raised the most money.
Overall timing results determined that Lane Thornton and Melanie Sandoval were the male and female winners, and team results showed the "TGL" as the fastest team. Full results can be found online at the Platt Systems website at www.plattsys.com. Additional photos of the event can be found on Flickr.
